Characters in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Each character in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince adds something very special to the movie. JK Rowling uses each of her characters in the book to help tell a compelling story and the Harry Potter movies do a wonderful job of following her lead. Below are a few characters from the movie:

Harry Potter
Played by Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter is "The Boy Who Lived." When the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, attacked and killed his mother and father, Harry miraculously survives. Now in his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the bespectacled wizard suspects that Voldemort’s forces are at work everywhere, even within the walls of his beloved school. Dumbledore’s Army, the group that Harry founded with Ron and Hermione in the fifth movie, will have to band together once again
Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger is still the spunky, smart witch that moviegoers have come to love in the first five movies, but her relationship with Harry is tested this time around. When Harry finds notes in his Potions textbook that help him excel in the class, Hermione suspects that he’s cheating and confronts him. Hermione’s romance with Ron goes through a few twists and turns During the Half Blood Prince movie, as well. The two friends try to punish each other for perceived and real slights until circumstance forces their reconciliation. Emma Watson plays Hermione.
Ron Weasley
Rupert Grint plays the loyal, humorous Ron Weasley. Best friend of Harry Potter and love interest (and friend) of Hermione Granger, Ron relationships with both are tested during the Half Blood Prince movie. With Harry as the Quidditch Captain, Ron’s performance becomes worse and worse until the friends finally have to have a heart to heart. When Ron learns that Hermione might have kissed Viktor Krum, he becomes jealous and tries to exact his revenge. However, the friends must stand together against the Death Eaters in order to combat Voldemort’s forces.
Albus Dumbledore
During the Half Blood Prince, Albus Dumbledore’s hand is shriveled and looks dead, an ominous indication of the Dark Arts the heroes will encounter during the movie. During a series of private lessons, Dumbledore reveals to Harry more of Voldemort’s past and secrets. Played by Michael Gambon, Albus Dumbledore drives much of the adventure and serious conflict through the movie.
Draco Malfoy
In the Half Blood Price, Harry suspects that Draco is conspiring with the Death Eaters to wreck havoc at Hogwarts. It is likely that Harry is right, as Draco is the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy and the nephew of Bellatrix Lestrange, all members of the Death Eaters. Tom Felton plays Draco.
Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange, played by Helena Bonham Carter, is one of the principal Death Eaters. As the older sister of Narcissa Malfoy, Draco’s mother, Bellatrix has a role to play in Draco’s activities at Hogwarts for Voldemort.
Narcissa Malfoy
Helen McCrory plays Narcissa Malfoy, the mother of Draco and Bellatrix Lestrange’s younger sister. In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Narcissa is motivated by the love of her son to visit Snape.
Severus Snape
Severus Snape finally reaches his long sought after goal of becoming the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. Alan Rickman plays the mysterious Snape, who is as suspicious as Hermione is of Harry’s success in the Potions class.
Horace Slughorn
Dumbledore brings Harry to help convince Horace Slughorn, played by Jim Broadbent, to come out of retirement and teach the Potions course at Hogwarts again. Slughorn lends Harry the Potions textbook that contain notes from the Half Blood Prince, which help Harry succeed in the class.
Ginny Weasley
During Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Harry realizes that he has strong feeling for Ginny Weasley, Ron’s younger sister. Played by Bonnie Wright, Ginny also reveals some personal information about Ron that exacerbates his tiff with Hermione. Ginny is in Dumbledore’s Army with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Lavender Brown
Jessie Cave plays Lavender Brown, Ron’s first girlfriend. Ron uses their relationship to antagonize Hermione. Lavender has been a big fan of the Divination classes, taught by Professor Trelawney, and is a close friend of Parvati Patil. Lavender is a member of Dumbledore’s Army, as well.
Tom Riddle
The young Lord Voldemort is played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin at age 11 and Frank Dillane as a teenager. They both appear as Harry learns more about Lord Voldemort’s past and the secret to his splintered soul during private lessons with Dumbledore.
Neville Longbottom
Played by Matthew Lewis, Neville Longbottom is a kind, but socially awkward friend of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Horace Slughorn initially invites Neville to be part of the Slug Club, a group of students that he favors, but then snubs him later on. Neville is also part of Dumbledore’s Army.
